Drew screams, ice cream

(Cape - ASOS, geek glasses - Camden market, t-shirt - Alpha 60, boot - River Island. Oh gosh, check out the dirt on the mirror. Must polish!)

The days are rapidly turning into weeks, which is (although a cliche) like being a passenger on a train, watching life pass by and being helpless to stop it. It's times like this that I feel OLD! But maybe that's a good thing because it's certainly got me up off my arse and back out into the world after a pretty lazy start to the year.

I've taken in the theatre (yah yah), a trip to the musuem (well, Ripley's but who cares?) and been to real live gigs! Oh my, how I've missed 'gigging' (there's gotto be a better term with equal economy of letters right?), seeing new bands, escaping my little bubble of internet finds and actually getting out and listening to them first hand. Amazing. Being the budding photographer (I'm not) I really made the most of my camera and er, left it at home for most these excursions. Partly because I like to be very much within the action and not watching from outside, taking snaps of everyone else having the fun. That and, well I knew I'd either stamp on it by accident, spill booze all over it or have it stolen by some theieving Camden cave-dweller.

I picked up this yummy Drew Barrymore tee today, a screenshot from one of my fave movies as a kid, Scream (yeah, what's that about?) and want to wear it everywhere. The passion for big white tees flourishes...Also finally got my geek glasses from Camden made into real glasses so now I can wear them AND see! Bonus! That top picture is a plate of homemade fish and chips made by my loving chef, sorry, boyfriend. And it tasted as good as it looked (dare I say, better). Considering I would live on a diet of stale bread, leftovers from the cupboard and ketchup, I am so glad this lovely man is in my life. Maybe I should get him something pretty for Valentine's day? Any ideas for a food, booze and football loving bloke with an aversion to shiny things?

It's all pillars and posts, posts and pillars

(Blazer - Urban Outfitters, top - Topshop, shorts - Topshop, double ring - ASOS,
bambi necklace - Galibardy, bow brooch - a gift)

If 2010 can be summed up in one word so far, it would have to be 'busy'. Not exactly the work of Keats but by gum if it ain't true. I've applied the maxim 'work hard, play hard' to this year and so far, so tiring but you're only young once, eh?

Following up my last post about the new Hurts track, I just got the Delphic album last night and wowie, I am in love with this business too. It is amazeballs, as Perez would say. Definitely give it a listen, there is some filler but also some proper future classics popping up. The Bloc Party for the new decade perhaps? Anyway, sorry if I'm going off on this totally irrelevant tangent, I've just been consumed with music this past week, definitely making me fall in love with that past-time all over again.

If I look really pissed off in these pictures, it's probably because my camera was acting up (a bad workman blames his tools) and that is genuine PO face. But that is also my natural face. Moody arse. That double ring reads Legend and is so tacky that I love it. Possibly my favourite piece from the jewellery box. Love that it elicits such love/hate reactions, and always a conversation starter in pubs if nothing else. There are many many blazers in my wardrobe (OK, 5) but this is definitely my favourite. I bought it for its nerdy, Giles-from-Buffy tweedish look and then saw Jessica Szohr (off Gossip Girl) wearing the very same one. And as she is the real life gf of Ed Westwick (Chuck off GG), makes me hopeful that one day maybe I too could have Chuck on my arm. Total insane logic. I promise to start taking pictures outside of my bedroom soon but am still getting to grips with this whole camera malarky, anyone got any tips?? Should I get a tripod?

Blood, Tears and Gold

I promise a proper post soon with pics and everything but firstly must share this video by Hurts. Second song they've released on their MySpace ever, and so worth the wait. Gorgeous, sad and melodramatic perfection.

Remember finding your feet...

(Dress - Urban Outfitters, belt - vintage, necklace - Urban Outfitters, rose ring - Accessorize)

Keeping my vow to only purchase 'classic' pieces this year, I maybe took it to the nth degree over the weekend and went a bit 'vintage crazy' - OK, not quite...It might be a faux brand of vintage but honestly every time I attempt the real thing (i.e. charity shops and thrift stores) I end up in a sweaty panic at the idea of wearing clothes that someone - although it's super unlikely - may have DIED in. How stupid is that? Why does no one else appear to have this problem? Is there a cure??

Anyway, in lieu of the real thing I went for this silk looking - but 100% polyester, obvs - dusty rose pink dress and a vintage belt as a compromise (take that FEAR!!) I loves it, and hope this to be the first vintage purchase of many...

And no you're not drunk it's just a bunch of shoddy, blurry images you're looking at. Sorry! Will defeds get this whole camera thing worked out soon. And I did tidy up after these were taken, I swear. A little late but hopefully will remain neat by the next post!

Through the yard of blonde girls...

(Snood - ASOS, Dress - Lipsy, tights - Jonathan Aston. Apols for the unitdy bed in the background and the pretty shoddy pics. I am a mess at the minute. New year's resolution: get organised!)

Firstly, *ahem* HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I hope everyone had a completely debauched and memorable exit from the noughties and into the er, teenies? This time of year always seems so weird. With two months of Halloween, Christmas and New Year furore, most people I know are left exhausted and penniless for the duration of January. Which is a bit of an anti-climax, right? I myself have started 2010 with a pretty gruesome hangover combined with a flu bug (not of the swine variety, phew), an added 6lbs to my ever expanding derriere and an addiction to Six Feet Under - thank yous Santa. What is it about Brenda's psychotic brother Billy? Is it just me or was he HAWT??

As for style, I'd like to think 2010 will bring more inspiration than ever for timeless threads that will last a lifetime - rather than one-wear, disposable pieces I'll look back and cringe over mere months later. Am loving this men's snood bought a few weeks ago. A comfort blanket and legitimate style accessory in one? Possibly better than telly. Oh and not to mention the number of mince pie sins it hides. I've been using of late to give a winter look to the number of summer dresses in my wardrobe. Now the only problem is being weaned off the thing before it starts to go ripe and I get a reputation as 'that stinky scarf lady'...

Happy 2010! MMT xx

Flashes of green

(Sequin capelet - ASOS, lace body - ASOS, white tank - Topshop, shorts - H&M, tights - Jonathan Aston, socks - Topshop, boots - Primark, white ring - Accessorize, gramophone necklace - Galibardy )

It's been a pretty relaxing (read: uneventful) weekend. Have left the house once today, to work off that cupcake (and a million other sins) at the gym. Had to battle through an icy deathtrap to get there, which in itself was enough exercise but got that warm post-workout glowy feeling so was all worth it in the end. Definitely missed out on a good night last night as all the texts kept informing me, but sometimes you just got to have a bit of quality time with the bf, a hot chocolate and Scrubs marathon (bought the boxsets up to s5, because got so fed up catching them on TVout of context. 'When did JD get with Elizabeth Banks?' 'Why's Dr. Cox bald?' and 'who's that blonde chick?' drives you crazy after a while).

In lieu of outdoors fun, I've playing with the fancy new camera that arrived this week but am a total novice so expect better pics when I pluck up the courage to ask aforementioned bf to start taking them for me. Will eventually get to grips but might invest in some more gadgets - like a tripod, now that's pretty profesh. Got a new nail polish from Urban Outfitters, messily applied to nails and marveled at the pretty - if you didn't catch the mass-off pic, it's by Sparkle & Fade and is a near perfect copy of the jade Chanel one without the hefty pricetag (£6 bargainous!). Definitely worth a purchase.

OK, I'm off for a second trip outdoors - this time to feed a belly and actually see friends...

My First Entry

'If you've got nothing to say, say nothing.'

I'm pretty sure I should take heed of the above statement but then you'd be staring at a blank page which frankly, could be more entertaining than this drivel but I've got to write something on my first go. But hmmm, what wise words should I impart..?

Ok, maybe this should just start with an explanation (and a reminder to myself) as to why I feel compelled to start a blog in the first place. And because of a certain fondness for easy-to-digest lists, I'm going to explain it that way (you can always delete these things, right?)

1.) Firstly, there are so many witty, inspiring and beautiful (wow this sounds like a crap Lonely Hearts ad) blogs out there putting glossy mag editorials to shame. Now, I'm not suggesting that this will ever be one of those blogs but you don't know if you don't try so maybe a B for effort is due?...Maybe not.

2.) Clothes. Wearing, buying, styling, looking, touching, er smelling - I Love them (with a capital L, obvs). If clothes maketh the woman, then styling (help) maketh her the confident woman she needs to be in this alpha male world. And I think Gok Wan would have my back on that. So I intend to use this blog as a sort of way to document my outfits but also to work as a reminder when I'm fat and fifty (which I fully intend to be), that I could once fit into nice things and not just tent-sized tees. So expect many pics. I just bought a proper camera for the first time and will be bugging friends, family and flatmates with incessant 'happy snapping' for at least the next month.

3.) I also got some big hearts for food. Mainly sweet stuff and seafood (not together! You're disgusting. Ugh, why would even think that??) - there will be many food-related images too. Like this one of a chocolate and marshmallow pizza - truly the greatest piece of Master Cheffery I've ever consumed.

4.) Sometimes if a thought is tangible, like laid out on paper or er, monitor then it somehow seems more real (I'm so deep). Anyway, this blog will likely act as a domain for ranting, pure self indulgence and any thoughts worthy of attention (this is of course, subjective and probably not remotely worthy of more than a milisecond's thought. But get ready for literary gold!)

5.) I write for a living and hope that this will be good practise. Although it could just get me into some bad habits. Ho hum, let's see...

Du-bye for now! xx
